A note from DIC volunteer Pam Tesche:

I am sitting here relaxing after a busy 2 weeks, enjoying gazing out my living room window on the quiet white cold from my cozy easy chair. College intern Becca Keys was in charge of the Drop-In-center for the 2-week school break. In her capable hands the youth made artful decorations for the Christmas tree, constructed four gingerbread houses, reconnected in fellowship, and sat at the feet of Pastor Mike as he told the Christmas story. You could hear a pin drop. Of course, one could also hear the swishing movement of two little guys as they made themselves comfortable on the back of the sofa, where four other kids sat properly on the cushions, shoulder to shoulder, leaning and lounging comfortably into one another. It's a little miracle of calmed wiggles, quieted voices, and listening ears that happens each time we have had an opportunity to tell a "God" story. Amazing.

Also amazing, is that we have made it through another year experiencing and learning from successes and challenges. We are thankful to all of the people who help make the center work--both the daily volunteers and the quiet sideliners--people who have given their time, talents, prayers and love to the children. We are looking forward to being under the wing of EriK Johnson, Central's youth ministry coordinator, and our new director. I'm hoping for more "crossover" of programs and opportunities for all of Central's kids.

The Drop-In-Center is a mission of our congregation revealed to us by God, birthed by hard work, and sustained with prayer. It is an opportunity laid before us by God to walk His neighborhoods for good. More than a location and furniture, with food to nourish, stuff to use, and tasks to do, it is delightful people young and old working together well, and learning from each other. The center is a loving gift from God that provides Central Lutheran Church with an every-day, year-round fun, exciting, lively, youthful presence. Indeed, if we believe our mission is to feed the lambs, we would be wise to lift our heads and look around. We will find that we are the sheep feeding at the manger beside them.
